biography

Siddharth Sriram is a Senior Associate in Incisive Law. 

Prior to reading law at the University of Leicester, Siddharth obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. 

Siddharth started off his legal practice at a boutique intellectual property law firm & was involved in patent and trademark litigation at the courts as well as contentious actions at the IPOS level. 

Since the move to shipping and admiralty law, he has been and is currently involved in multiple arbitration references (Ad-hoc, SIAC, LMMA and HKMA) and Commercial Litigation arising out of ship-management, ship-building and vessel-sharing agreements as well as agreements to supply goods or to provide offshore geotechnical services, as well as disputes arising from charterparties and/or bills of lading, in relation to off-hire, dead-freight and demurrage. 

Siddharth also advises in relation to a wide range of matters including, but not limited to, claims for off-hire and bunkers remaining-on-board (have advised and acted for owners as well as charterers), claims for freight and demurrage, claims arising from accidents at ports, indemnity claims, claims arising under P&I and H&M policies as well as claims arising under marine employment contracts/CBA agreements.

Notable matters
Matters handled prior to joining the firm:
  • Acted for a south-east Asian shipping line in relation to a dispute arising from a vessel-sharing agreement and container fire. 
  • Advised a H&M Insurer on their liability under an insurance policy in a situation involving contaminated cargo and assisted it in obtaining a favourable outcome. 
  • Acted for an IG P&I Club and Member in negotiations in relation to an accident at discharge port and succeeded in obtaining for Club and Member almost the full sum of Member’s claim. 
Fraud & Misrepresentation
  • Acted for a Singapore commodity trading company in a US$300 million fraud claim involving financing based on forged warehouse receipts. Successfully resisted pre-action discovery and interrogatories applications before the Singapore Court and obtained an injunction against the adverse parties.
  • Acted for a Singapore commodity trading company in a fraud case arising from the trading and storage of gold and precious metals in warehouses.
Admiralty and Shipping
  • Acted for a terminal and arrested a VLCC for an allision caused by the VLCC against the terminal’s berth.
  • Acted for an oil trading company in the arrest of multiple vessels arising out of the insolvency of an oil supplier.
Notable Matters
  • Advised global insurance broker Pacific Prime on its multi-million acquisition of Singapore-based insurance tech company CXA Group.
  • Advising Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation as lead arranger for the purchase of two LNG new buildings by SPVs owned by BW Pavilion (a joint venture between BW and Pavilion Energy), (Deal of the Year, 2016. Maritime Money: Project Finance).
  • Advised Oro Negro as issuer of the largest high yield bond (US$725million) ever issued in the Norwegian market (Norwegian Bond Deal of the Year, 2015. Marine Money Offshore).
  • Advised Singapore based Epic Shipping group on its refinancing and subsequent merger with Greek based Pantheon.
  • Advising on a US$900 million bond issue restructuring.
  • Special counsel for US trustee in bankruptcy relating to major international bankruptcy.
  • Preparation of tender documents for Sentosa Cove Development.
